Normally when someone says clearance my ears perk up…but when Dollar General says clearance I put my running shoes on! Every so often, Dollar General will run clearance events, where already clearanced items will be marked down even further!
Take for example this weekend–August 4th through the 6th. Dollar General is having a clearance event where ALL items that are currently on clearance will be an additional 50% off! Now, what makes this clearance event absolutely spectacular is the ability to stack this clearance price with digital coupons found in the Dollar General app–both manufacturer coupons and Dollar General store coupons will apply on top of the clearance price. You know what that means? Absolutely CRAZY CHEAP prices!
Here’s what you’re gonna do to score:
- First, if you can, head to your DG EARLY! These clearance events bring out the crowds, and the good stuff tends to go quick! So if you’re free the morning of the 4th and want to snag all the best stuff, be in the parking lot ready to shop a few minutes before the store opens.
- Look EVERYWHERE for clearance items, not just in the clearance sections! Oftentimes, Dollar General will have a clearance section in their stores…BUT during these events they make new sections and sometimes scatter them throughout the store. Look at endcaps, carts lined up at the front of the store, new aisles being formed, baskets hanging out on the floor…these events are kind of like a scavenger hunt, so don’t be afraid to be a true Coupon Hunter and get to searching!
- Which brings me to my next point…SCAN EVERYTHING in the Dollar General app! If you think it might be on clearance, scan it. If it looks out of season, scan it. If it’s old packaging, scan it. Scan, scan, scan every item! Not only will this give you the in store price of the item (clearance or not) BUT it will also show any coupons that are available to clip in the app that will apply to that clearance price. So, take for example, you scan a Downy softener in the app and notice it’s on clearance for $7; then, you scroll down a bit and see this $3 off coupon beneath that item. You’d go ahead and clip that $3 off coupon, head up to the register with your $7 Downy, scan the item, enter in your DG phone number, and you’d end up paying just $4 out of pocket!
- Another great perk of this sale is being able to stack the savings with the $5 off $25 Dollar General store coupon that we get every Saturday! So while I know most of the “good stuff” will be gone on Friday, if you wait until Saturday you’ll be able to use the $5/$25 coupon on all of those coupon prices!
